What this sheet does

Google Sheets Workout Log & Planner

Most workout logs die in week three. Not because logging is hard, but because the log and the plan live in different places — the program is in one file, the record of what happened is in another, and keeping them in step becomes a chore nobody keeps up.

These sheets put both in one document. The block is laid out week by week with the prescribed loads already calculated off the athlete's tested max, and each session has its own space to record what was actually completed. Logging stops being a separate task and becomes the thing you do while following the plan.

In Google Sheets that file is a link rather than an attachment. One document, always current, open on a phone at the rack or on a laptop when you sit down to write next block.

Planning a block, not a single session

A log that only holds today doesn't show you anything. These sheets lay out the block — weeks across, sessions down — so progression is visible as a shape rather than a stack of separate entries. When a lift stalls you can see which week it started, which is the part that actually changes what you write next.

How to write a strength program

Planned against performed

Each prescribed load sits next to a blank for what was completed. Fill that in and the log answers the only question that matters at the end of a block: did the program run as written? A block where every session came in under the prescription isn't a bad athlete, it's a badly weighted plan — but you can only tell the two apart if both numbers are on the page.

Mapping a whole season

For a longer horizon than a block — an off-season into pre-season, or a competitive calendar with peaks to hit — the seasonal planner maps phases across the year and hands each phase a program to log against. Same file format, same Sheets compatibility, longer view.

The seasonal planner template

Logging from a phone

Once the workbook is a native Google Sheet, the free Sheets app opens it on iPhone and Android. Entries land in the same document everyone with the link is looking at, so a client's log is visible to you the moment they finish the set — no export, no screenshot, no chasing.

Questions

Common questions.

Is there a free Google Sheets workout log?

Yes. Every template here is free and opens in Google Sheets. Upload the .xlsx to Drive, open it with Sheets, and you have a workout log with the planned numbers already calculated.

How do I make a workout log in Google Sheets?

Lay the block out with weeks across and sessions down, keep the tested max in one cell, calculate each prescribed load off it as a percentage, and leave a column beside each prescription for what was actually completed. The free template is already built this way, so there's nothing to set up.

Can I use Google Sheets as a workout planner?

Yes — and it's better at planning than most apps, because you can see the whole block at once and change it. Adjust the max or a percentage and every affected session re-weights, which is exactly the edit you make most often when a block isn't going to plan.

Does the workout log work offline?

The Google Sheets app can be set to make a file available offline, so entries recorded in a gym with no signal sync when the phone reconnects. The formulas run locally either way.
